The Saturday Splash - Keep It Trill

Finna start a new blog series called “The Saturday Splash” where I give lil fun facts about some of my music in how they came about, musical connections, etc. Real nerdy shit.

For the first entry, let’s talk about “Keep It Trill” off the exclusive mixtape Beyond the Flamingo (gon ‘head and listen if ya haven’t yet). This track is actually 10 years old. That sample chop? I made that back in 2015. Remember it like yesterday. I was in the PAC (Tenn. State ‘17 yadigg) makin beats one day cuz that was my third space and I ain’t feel like bein in my dorm. Chopped the SHIT out of “Is It a Crime” and loved that beat ever since.

However, I never did anything with it. So it sat on my hard drive, just chillin. Only bein played whenever I’d go down memory lane and remember “wow, that was dope! I needa so somethin with that” just to immediately forget.

So one night, couldn’t sleep, I revisit that beat but not in mp3 form; it’s project file on FL Studio. So I said “fuck it, I’ma reuse this sample and make it to something I want”. 30 mins later, the beat for “Keep It Trill” came about.

I think it took me like a span of 50 minutes to come up with the lyrics throughout the same day of creating it? I know I listened to it on repeat the whole day after making it cuz , cmon, that shit hard as hell.

I also love the subtext within the song and the schemes I did lyrically. You know within these player ways I’m still lyrical and speakin on sumn now, lmao.

This was fun. I don’t want to type too much fa real because I’m not finna reread and edit allat. I edit as I type and make sure shit makes sense the first time. This also makes it feel like you really talkin to me and vice versa type shit.
